I have an '86 VS700. I'm a pretty big fellow (270lbs), and the 700 has plenty of power. After I first got it (bought it used), I decided to see just how much power it really had. Left a 15 foot burnout, and that was with the motor cold! After the burnout, while the tire was good and hot, I tried it again. WOAH NELLIE! As I was cranking down on the front brake, and easing the clutch out while giving it PLENTY of throttle, low and behold the front tire comes off the ground! Had it up about two feet in the air for about ten feet before I chickened out and backed off the throttle. I had only had the bike for two days when I did that, and I haven't done it again since! I did the same thing on my '84 VF700 Sabre too! Only I wasn't trying too that time! I know some folks that have both the 800 and 1400, and they both have plenty of power. The 800 is quicker than the 1400 in the 1/4 mile, but the 1400 can pull stumps in the torque department. Have you seen my website yet? The link is below. Take a gander if you want, just follow "Smiley" and his friends to the photos.
